How to download audio and music from Instagram Reels

Sometimes you don't want the Instagram video, just the audio. A song you discovered, an original creator sample, an iconic phrase, or just background music to use in another project. In this guide I'll show you how to extract the MP3 from any Instagram Reel or Story.

Why audio only?

Common cases where you want audio instead of video:

Step-by-step audio extraction

1. Copy the Reel link

  1. Open the Reel or post on Instagram
  2. Tap the 3 dots at top right (or the Share button)
  3. Select Copy link

2. Paste it in ReelSavr

Go to reelsavr.net, paste the link and tap Search video.

3. Pick Audio MP3

In the quality options, ignore the video options (1080p, 720p, 480p) and select Audio MP3.

4. Download

Tap Download. The server extracts the audio from the Reel and delivers it as MP3. Usually under 10 seconds.

Types of audio in Reels

Original creator audio

When the creator filmed the Reel with ambient sound (their voice, live music, recording sounds), that's original audio. Extracts perfectly with no copyright issues for personal use.

Instagram audio (sounds)

Instagram lets you use popular "sounds" other creators uploaded. If the Reel uses one of these, it also extracts. Those audios technically belong to the original creator who uploaded first.

Commercial music (Spotify Connect, etc.)

When a creator adds a commercial song via Instagram's music library (which has label licenses), the song is in the Reel but with copyright. It extracts the same, but:

Voice / narration

Educational or opinion Reels are mostly creator voice. Extracting audio gives you the spoken "transcript" of the Reel, useful for reviewing info without watching the video.

MP3 quality

Instagram compresses audio when you publish a Reel. Typical quality:

We convert to MP3 keeping that quality. For most uses (listening, samples, voice) it's perfect.

Use in music production

If you're a music producer, Instagram samples are a goldmine:

  1. Find a sound you like in a Reel
  2. Extract the MP3 with ReelSavr
  3. Import to your DAW (Ableton, FL Studio, Logic, etc.)
  4. Use as base sample, with effects, in a beat

Warning: if you're going to release the song commercially, make sure the sample is your own work or you have permission. Otherwise, you can have legal issues.

Ringtones

iPhone

To use Instagram audio as iPhone ringtone you need the free GarageBand app:

  1. Download the MP3 to Files with ReelSavr
  2. Open GarageBand → new empty project
  3. Tap the Tracks icon
  4. Select "Audio Recorder" or "Drummer"
  5. In track view, import the MP3 from Files
  6. Trim it to 30 seconds max
  7. Tap Share button → Ringtone
  8. Assign in Settings → Sounds

Android

Much simpler:

  1. Download the MP3
  2. Open Settings → Sound → Ringtone
  3. Tap "+" or "Add custom"
  4. Select the downloaded MP3

Special case: carousel audio

Photo carousels with music work the same. Paste the carousel link and pick Audio MP3 — we give you the carousel's music.

Limitations

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Instagram "original" audio?

Yes. If the creator recorded their own music or used an Instagram original audio, we can extract that MP3.

What about commercial music (Spotify, etc.)?

Yes, but limited by copyright. Personal use is fine. To distribute or use commercially, you need a license from the rights holder.

What quality is the MP3?

Instagram compresses audio to 128 kbps AAC on most Reels. We convert to MP3 keeping that quality — we don't fake improvements.

Can I extract audio from Stories too?

Yes, if the Story has a public URL. Same process: paste the link and pick Audio MP3.
