How to download Instagram Reels and photos on iPhone
If you want to download Reels, photos, or Stories from Instagram on your iPhone, this is the method that guarantees high quality and zero unnecessary apps installed. Everything happens in Safari and ReelSavr. In this guide I cover all Instagram content types and how to save them on your iPhone.
Why does iPhone need special methods?
Apple has strict rules for apps downloading social media content. Result: App Store apps for "saving Instagram" usually have problems:
- Apple removes them periodically for policy violations
- They charge monthly subscriptions of $5-10
- Have invasive full-screen ads
- Some ask for your Instagram login (NEVER give it outside instagram.com)
ReelSavr is web — no App Store, no subscription, never asks for your Instagram login.
Download Reels on iPhone
1. Copy the link
- Open the Reel in the Instagram app
- Tap the 3 dots button (top right)
- Select Copy link
2. Open ReelSavr in Safari
Go to reelsavr.net, paste the link (long-press the field and pick Paste) and tap Search video.
3. Pick quality and download
Select 1080p Full HD and tap Download.
4. Save to Photos
- Open iOS Files app
- Tap Downloads
- Find the file
- Tap it to open
- Tap Share then Save Video
Download Instagram photos
Same process, but:
- Tap Share on the photo post
- Or use the 3 dots and pick Copy link
Paste in ReelSavr. If a single photo, download direct. If a carousel, it offers a ZIP with all photos.
How to unzip on iPhone
- Download the ZIP with ReelSavr
- Open the Files app
- Tap the ZIP — iOS extracts it automatically
- You'll see a folder with all photos
- Select the ones you want, tap Share and Save Image
Download Stories
Stories are different because they expire in 24 hours. To download them on iPhone:
If the Story is in a Highlight
Highlights are permanent Stories. Work the same as Reels:
- Open the Highlight
- Tap the paper plane icon (Share)
- Pick Copy link
- Paste in ReelSavr and download
If it's a normal Story (not archived)
Trickier because it doesn't always have a public URL. Safest option is screen recording:
- Settings → Control Center → add Screen Recording
- Open the Story on Instagram
- Swipe Control Center and tap the red button
- Watch the full Story
- Stop the recording
- Trim the video in Photos
Shortcut: ReelSavr as an app
For 1-click access:
- Open reelsavr.net in Safari
- Tap the Share button (square with arrow)
- Scroll and select Add to Home Screen
- Confirm the name and tap Add
Now ReelSavr is an icon on your home like any app.
Apple Shortcuts hacks (advanced)
If you like automation, you can build an Apple Shortcut that:
- Detects you've copied an Instagram link
- Automatically opens ReelSavr with the pasted link
- Starts the video search
The process is technical but there are YouTube tutorials. Search "Apple Shortcuts Instagram downloader".
Common troubleshooting
"Safari says download blocked"
Some iOS versions block auto-downloads for security. Manually confirm when Safari asks if you want to download.
"I can't find the video in Files"
Check Settings → Safari → Downloads to confirm save location. Default is Files → On My iPhone → Downloads.
"The video won't play when I open it"
Restart the Files app. If still won't play, the download cut off. Re-download.
"Quality looks bad"
Likely the creator uploaded in low quality. ReelSavr downloads the EXACT quality from Instagram — we can't improve it.
Frequently asked questions
Why won't Instagram let me download?
Instagram only lets you save content within its app (Collections), not download to your device. ReelSavr complements that by giving you the real MP4 or JPG file.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, identical to iPhone. Safari and the Files app work exactly the same on iPad.
Do I need jailbreak?
No. ReelSavr runs 100% in Safari like any web app. No jailbreak, iOS modifications, or special apps needed.
Which iOS works?
iOS 13 or newer. Older versions didn't support direct downloads in Safari.
